Here's what we were working with - a beaten-up backyard with aging retaining wall materials, no real usable space, and bare ground that turned to mud every time it rained. No defined zones. No place to gather. Just a yard that was getting ignored. That's actually one of the most common things we hear from homeowners: they have the space, they just don't know what to do with it yet.

We stripped everything down to bare dirt and started fresh. Two bobcats on site, full demo of the old materials, and a clean slate to build something worth coming home to. That kind of ground-up approach takes more work upfront, but it's the only way to get the foundation right - especially when you're building a paver patio, a retaining wall, and a dedicated hot tub area all in one scope.

What came out of it is a backyard that actually works. A custom paver patio with a circular fire pit zone at the center - chairs around the fire, room for a full group, and landscape lighting that rings the whole area after dark. The hot tub sits right off the back of the house on its own paver pad. Fresh sod ties everything together with a clean lawn that flows up to a gently curved retaining wall edged with boulders and uplights.

That lighting setup deserves its own mention. We positioned uplights directly on the boulders tucked into the retaining wall bed, so at night the whole back edge of the yard glows. It adds depth and makes the space feel finished at every hour - not just during the day. Outdoor spaces that look good after dark get used way more often, and that's kind of the whole point.

This is a full outdoor living space design and installation from the ground up - retaining wall, paver patio, fire pit, sod, lighting, and a hot tub retreat all working together as one cohesive layout. When it all comes together like this, the backyard stops being an afterthought and starts being the reason people come over.
